Infant Massage training is a delightful class that offers insight into working with infants and their mothers during the infant’s transition into new life. The participants will learn the following:
· The history, theory, and practice of infant massage
· The benefits of infant massage to both infant and parent
· The four forms of techniques used in infant massage
· The basic considerations during the first nine months of an infant’s development
· The basic contraindications of infant massage
· The behavioral states of the newborn and which one is most receptive to massage
· How a baby gives permission for massage
· The preparations needed for an effective infant massage
· The relationship between colic and massage
· How to adapt to the fussing infant
· How to adapt the massage to the premature baby
· How to adapt the massage to a restless child
· A 20-minute protocol for infant massage
· Four gentle exercises to do with the infant
The class is taught through lecture, discussion, videos, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and experience with an infant and mother (provided we find enough infants for each participant).
